On 14 July 2018, SSA youths partnered with the Industrial & Services Co-operative Society (ISCOS) to organise and host a bonding session for children of ex-offenders and their mentors, at the Tampines Soka Centre. ISCOS is a co-operative that helps its members (ex-offenders) and their families make positive changes to reintegrate successfully into society.
To foster friendship, communication and understanding, the seven mentor-mentee pairs were engaged in a series of activities planned by SSA youths, which include finger painting, photo challenges and games. Over the afternoon of bonding, everyone worked together to complete the activities before adjourning to the adjacent Tampines SAFRA for a barbeque session.
As SGI President Daisaku Ikeda says
“Let us give something to each person we meet: joy, courage, hope, assurance or philosophy, wisdom, a vision for the future. Let us always give something.”
This bonding session with the less privileged youth has enabled our SSA youths, to inculcate the positive values of hope, resilience and courage in others, regardless of social economic background and class status.
